Romanian vote loser Simion claims France interfered in election

Romanian far-right leader George Simion announced Tuesday he will contest his defeat in last Sunday’s presidential election, alleging foreign inference from France and Moldova.

Centrist Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan won the second round of the vote, which was rerun after a first election last November was annulled over concerns about Russian interference.

“We will contest the election at the Constitutional Court for the same reasons they annulled the elections in December,” Simion said.

Without offering evidence, Simion also alleged Moldova spent €100 million buying votes, and claimed that “dead people” voted in Sunday’s second round.

He then accused the French government of asking Telegram to censor conservative voices, and said he had asked Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messaging app, for a hearing before the elections are validated.

“Neither France nor Moldova nor anyone else has the right to interfere in the elections of another state,” Simion wrote in a post.
